Let me just start off by saying that everyone's hats are off to David Marsh. To record 77 saves in a game of that magnitude is an incredible feat. Win, loss, or tie; David Marsh should come out of yesterdays game with a smile on his face. All the recognition and praise is exactly what he deserves. With that being said, Northview and St. Ignatius did live up to the hype. A rematch from the 2010 State Championship when St. Ignatius handily defeated Northview 4-1. The game will go down in history as the longest Championship game and also the best and most bizzare. At 8:18, Northview put the first goal up on the board. Jake Koback netted a rebound goal past the St. Ignatius goaltender. Although after that, the rest of the game was St. Ignatius chances. David Marsh stood about 10 feet tall for the entire game. If it wasn't for an unlucky bounce thrown out front and knocked in late in the third period, David Marsh would have had a 1-0 shutout in the State Final. After 7 overtimes of high school kids pouring their hearts out on the ice, the OHSAA Administrator came out to say he talked with both coaches and they had agreed to call them Co-Champs to prevent further injury. Left many people and Nationwide confused as we have never seen this before. It was the worst way to end the great year that was 2013-2014 but that was how it ended and there is no arguing that. So St. Ignatius and Northview are both hockey State Champs. Congratulations to every Northview hockey player that poured their heart on that ice to bring this one home. Keep making Sylvania proud.
