Ken Holland is interested in acquiring a veteran defenseman that can help the Red Wings in the future according to MLive’s Ansar Khan. Some are speculating that the defenseman they are interested in could be Alexander Edler from Vancouver or Andrew MacDonald from the New York Islanders. The Edler trade won’t and can’t happen because he has a no-trade clause on his contract that kicked in last year. The MacDonald trade is possible because the Islanders have no chance of making the playoffs with Johnny Hockey out for the year. His contract is only $550,000 but he leads the NHL in blocked shots. If the Red Wings can trade for him and sign him to a deal that would be great. Quincey’s contract is up after this year and I’m not sure if Lashoff is completely ready for an everyday role. I do not want to give up Sheahan, Jurco, Mrazek, Tatar, Nyquist, Smith or DeKeyser. Those guys look to have high potential and are the future. We’ll see what Holland has in store for us at the deadline.
