The Red Wings players are having a pretty solid Olympics. The Wings sent 10 players over to Sochi and three personnel (four if you count Stevie Y). Datsyuk and Zetterberg were the captains of Russia and Sweden until Zetterberg suffered an injury in the first game. No problem though because another Wing took over as captain of Sweden, Nik Kronwall. Sweden was the team that a ton of experts picked to win the gold medal. Right now I find it a little difficult for that team to generate the offense it would need to beat Canada or USA. With Sedin, Franzen and Zetterberg not playing they will have to look for other means of scoring. Look for Nyquist, Loui Eriksson and Eric Karlsson to have a huge game against Finland. Gustavsson and Howard have not seen any playing time for their countries but that is good for the Red Wings. Howard came into the Olympics with a nagging knee injury so it is good for him to have some rest. And Gustavsson is playing behind one of the best goalies in the world. Right now 5 of the 10 Red Wings have advanced to the medal round. Let’s hope for a healthy Zetterberg when this is over and a 23rd straight playoff appearance for Hockeytown. Predictions for the rest of the Olympics: USA Gold, Sweden Silver, Finland Bronze.
