Over these next few weeks I’m going to release my top 25 Tigers. Here are players 25-21:
25. Don Kelly- Don’t get me wrong I love Mr. Baseball but he is just getting older and we have a replacement for him that we just traded for. Don is still going to get playing time here and there this year but I definitely think he will be seeing less of the field. He still can come in and play every position but now he is getting older and slower.
24. Bryan Holaday- He has a career batting average of .282 but he hasn’t even played 50 games in his career. 2 years in the majors so far but he will get the opportunity to play all year for Detroit. I will be happy with him if he keeps that .280 average as the backup catcher to Avila. He calls a pretty good game for the pitchers and has a better arm than Avila.
23. Luke Putkonen- Luke was really good for the Tigers last year when he came out of the bullpen. He pitched 30 innings and had an ERA of 3.03. He’s a pitcher that will be useful this year in the 6th/7th inning when it is a 2 or 3 score game.
22. Phil Coke- Phil had a terrible year last year. I think everyone had extremely high expectations for him because of how he pitched in the 2012 playoffs. He ended the 2013 season with a 5.40 ERA and only pitching 38.1 innings. Let the crazy out this year Coke and hopefully have a good year.
21. Joba Chamberlain- Joba is basically on the same boat as Phil Coke. This is a pretty big year for Chamberlain because the Tigers only signed him for 1 year, so he will need to show the Tigers and the rest of the league why he deserves a big year contract. He feels happy now that he can grow facial hair in Detroit (the Yankees have a no-facial hair policy). Chamberlain has the potential to be a very good relief pitcher, possibly a 7th or 8th inning guy if his stuff is really good.
