Ohio State beat Minnesota Saturday night despite scoring 18 points in the first half. Who would’ve thought they’d pull that one out after playing such sloppy first half basketball. On the plus side, OSU has won six out of its last seven games. They’re likely going to need this kind of performance from Sam Thompson every game if they want to make a run in the Big 10 tourney and get to March Madness. Realistically though, they’re going to need one guy to step up in every game like Thompson did in this game. It’s going to take a total team effort the rest of the way because they don’t have that one dominating scorer. Scoring your first basket 3 minutes and 57 seconds isn’t going to work for long. Teams like Michigan and Michigan State will make the Buckeyes pay for that. Hopefully this game can boost some confidence in Sam Thompson and get him more involved. Building off of his success will be huge because Lenzelle Smith and LaQuinton Ross have not been super reliable up to this point.
